ArtK78
I would bid 4NT over 4♠. You need next to nothing to make 11 tricks in a red suit - some length in a red suit and one, maybe two, red suit honors (assuming partner does not have an ace. Slam is not out of the question. Even a grand slam is not out of the question - on the best of all days, partner could have Ax x xxxxx Axxxx. This is not to say that bidding is always right on these cards, but I think it is right more often than not.
inquiry
can't pass... must say something.... I go with 4NT as well
Codo
yes 4 Nt followed by 5 ♦ over the possible 5 ♣ from partner. This is not risk free, but surely the winning auction in the long run.
eagles123
so 4NT is just any two suiter? Thanks, Eagles
PhilKing
so 4NT is just any two suiter? Thanks, Eagles Yep. Pard can't just assume minors, so has to respond 5♣ with ♠xxx ♥x ♦Jxxxx ♣Kxxx in case we have clubs and hearts.
eagles123
ok that's a useful one thanks guys, had thought 4NT would show the minors... hence i plumped for 5H... what should've been a bottom turned into a top though when nutter east decided to bid 5S (dbl-3) when 5H was going 2 off lol
