gszes
JEC wants to see some variety----not same players every time-- This team is tougha worthy challenge for any poster. COME on all give it a shot. How many of these challenges are left I have no clue. Is it that frustrating to consider playing with anunfamiliar person for 28 boards (unless u hate almost everything they post).

helene_t
it's a bit pointless when so few of the top players who are regular bbf'ers participate. But I don't oppose it. If JEC can find better opps himself he can always call it off.
Zelandakh
it's a bit pointless when so on the few occasions when one of the top players who are regular bbf'ers can participate they are excluded.FYP. It may take a change of management to tempt those players back into trying again; or that ship may have sailed for good. I hope that someone behind the scenes has tried to unruffle feathers and make it possible for our top contributors to volunteer again should they have time in the future.
diana_eva
IMO ship sailed when the BBF vs JEC somehow converted from "Let's bring our best team and beat them" to "No use trying to beat them, better reward our contributors instead". barmar
When was it ever about trying to field the best team? I thought it originated as a fun way to let members of our community have a chance to play against a team of experts.

gszes
I voted for option c). You see -- when the really strong posters get involved we can all learn something from them. Ipersonally have not a clue how "c" is germaine here. gszes
For the record I should mention that we actually have 1 win Yes yes we have one win and I was on that team. Since that WIN it has becomeincreasingly harder to field a team. No idea why us winning a match would havesuch a damaging effect. It would be nice to place some more victories in thearchives but even better would be to see some rising form of enthusiasm toplay JEC while we still can. I see them playing a LOT so there appears to beno shortage of players (outside the forum posters that is) that wish to take advantage of playing against them. I see some comments here but still novolunteers to get ground to dust by the JEC juggernaut and that's a shame. Remember actions speak louder than words:)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Management hmmmmm where are those scoundrels hiding any way they get all the money and fameand leave all the dirty work to me. I was scheduled for charm class next Saturday but I found out thefunds were withdrawn at the last minute. I even volunteered to pay for the class myself but found thatthe class time overlaps with the JEC match and I can't let that ship sink just to make myself "prettier"for everyone. Oh and I have never even considered diplomacy school ackkkk talk about dealing witha bunch of thin skinned (now see that's why I need charm school). Let's make sure we have plenty of volunteers for 7/27 so I can attend:))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

onoway
Ok what exactly is the idea here? Is it to try to form teams to beat them or is it to field players who would love to try in spite of being clearly outclassed but who have some degree of skill and lots of enthusiasm for the game? I think that the latter might possibly be less fun for JEC but would be a whole lot of fun for those of us who fit that category. IF that was understood to be the case, that is. I just remembered a newspaper clip of Goren playing with a bunch of sailors..he'd apparently play anywhere with anyone and just have fun. If that's basically the idea then let us KNOW and you'd have lots of volunteers I'm sure. If the goal is simply to beat them, which is what I understood, then that clearly lets most of us out, as in spite of our best efforts and intentions it's unlikely to happen. This has been my understanding. I don't know JEC and can only infer his motivations, but I think that except in big tournaments the game is more important to him than the result, so as long as we make a reasonable showing then it's all good. I don't think JEC has to "maximize fun", so to speak, in every match as long as he's enjoying the game in the long run. Again, that's just my impression. Kristen33/JILLYBEAN and Artk78/Guymath NOW if a "stronger pair" wishes to join some method of arbitration must take place to see whom will play. I have a "seniority"system in place which means the player(s) that lost the most recently are at the bottom of the seniority list all other thingsbeing equal. Since there seems to be ZERO interest in having some kind of competition to earn a spot I have sort ofarbitrarily decided all players are equal for now and the seniority system will decide who is up. As a reminder A forum POSTER is one that tries to answer questions a forum QUESTIONER is one that posts questions only. 4 (or more if they want to play tag team) forum poster regular partnerships2 forum posters regular partners2 forum posters not regular partners2 forum posters and 2 questioners regular partnerships1 forum poster and 3 questioners regular partnerships1 forum poster and regular partner1 forum poster 1 questioner regular partners1 forum poster 1 questioner not regular partners1 forum poster and 3 others regular partnerships4 (or more if they want to play tag team) questioners regular partnerships2 questioners regular partners2 questioners not regular partners1 questioner and regular partner that's it I am not overly concerned if I have missed any variations but please note thatuntil THUR MORNING prior to the match a higher ranking seniority player/pair/teamcan displace someone already volunteering lower on the priority list. Thur morningprior to the match it becomes first come first served and if a higher player/pair/teamsuddenly decides they want to play they have to convince the players chosen to step down and let them play in their place. I will not do the coordination for this lastpart it is up to the players themselves to do the coordinating.
onoway
I seem to have missed a whole lot of stuff here. Didn't see where there was a discussion about "earning a spot" and I really would like to hear from an organizer about the motivation for these matches, with all respect to greenman. Way back when, I thought the matches were just for experts so hadn't paid a whole lot of attention to the posts about them. I wonder how many other people have done the same? It would be helpful if there could be a recap of what it's all about and then possibly also of how people might go about getting to play IF you suddenly get swamped with people; I'd imagine most of us here have both asked and answered questions or tried to help. Sorry about being late to the party but it would be a shame if the JEC matches were to disappear, and I bet I'm not the only one who hadn't thought playing might be an option, since I'm not an expert.
