6 spades How does it make

Recommended Posts

Not sure what best defence is. On a diamond lead for example:

A

spade to 10

A

Q if N covers you can simply ruff, ruff a heart, draw the trump and duck a club, if he doesn't, simply duck a club while you have a trump in dummy.

On a heart lead you can play as above because N doesn't have a 3rd heart so you can afford to run yourself out of trumps.

oops two fellow posters said the same while I was writing :)

you win the opening lead and play A.

Now you take the spade finese and draw one more trump (felling the K) but don't draw the last trump.

Now you take a ruffing finese by playing the Q. If it is not covered you discard a heart. If it is covered you ruff and go back to your hand by ruffing a heart.

You now concede a club trick. You have five spade tricks, five heart tricks and A. The twelth trick is either Q (if it was not covered) or a diamond ruff (if it was covered).

Note that North can't take a second defensive trick after we give him a club trick. If he covered Q our J guards the diamonds, otherwise we still have a trump in dummy.
