Antrax Posted July 16, 2013 Report Share Posted July 16, 2013 Draw trump. If they're 2-2 you're 100% to make:Play ♠AK and ruff the third ♠ in dummy. Play ♦AK ending in hand. Play low club and cover what N plays. If it wins, you lose at most one club trick.If it loses, if S returns a club you again cover if appropriate and win the next two club tricks.If it loses and S returns another suit, you pitch a club from hand and ruff with dummy's last trump. If trumps are 3-1 I play the same way, but this time I have to finesse clubs twice (when S returns a non-club I can't ruff in dummy).If trumps are 4-0 you ruff a spade when finding it out, then continue the same way.Both of these are slightly under 75% (not precisely "either finesse" because the finesses are not 50% once S has few hearts). wank Posted July 16, 2013 Report Share Posted July 16, 2013 the partial elimination isn't that good - you're often losing a trump promotion. for the elimination to operate you need north to have 2+ clubs, 3+ diamonds and 4+ spades (i'm assuming you're keeping 2 top trumps in hand to ruff the 3rd club high or you're going off whenever north has a doubleton club). given he has 2 fewer vacant spaces, i would think the simple line of just hooking clubs twice must be very close in percentage terms. you need the 10 of hearts to make it worthwhile imo.
