eagles123
Hi Guys, I struggle a little when to DBL a weak 2 and when not to. Where to draw the line? (Matchpoints pls) 1 - [hv=pc=n&w=s876hj9dajt7cajt4&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=2hpp]133|200[/hv] 2 - [hv=pc=n&w=sj876h9dajt7cajt4&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=2hpp]133|200[/hv] 3 - [hv=pc=n&w=sajth93dajt7cajt4&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=2hpp]133|200[/hv] 4 - [hv=pc=n&w=sajt8h9dajt7cajt4&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=2hpp]133|200[/hv] 5 - [hv=pc=n&w=saqj8h6dkqj6caj94&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=2hpp]133|200[/hv] I suspect 1 is far too weak and 5 is very clear but it's just the ones in between I'm never quite sure. helene_t
given that we are white vs white at matchpoints and we are in balancing seat I would double with all of them, but I would pass hand 1 under most other circumstances. The other hands I would always double.
Cyberyeti
I would double on a 4144 pretty much regardless of strength, the weaker you are, the more partner will have and he hasn't doubled or bid. Can go wrong but never has yet, and is in fact safer on a zero count than about an 8 or 9 count. I certainly double on all 5 of your hands. eagles123
this is very interesting folks thanks! The reason I asked was I did dbl on hand 1 today, it was just a gut instinct call really but I kinda thought I was way too light to dbl especially without a 4th spade... but seemingly not! The other hands were just made up to see where the limit was but I guess even one I thought was VERY stretchy is within most people's limit on here lol. You make a good point about the 4th spade being valuable - in my eyes this is the only thing making hand 1 marginal. But w/w at MP in the passout seat you can often afford to take liberties with your bidding and come in on hands that you would pass at other colours. the hog
2-5 are clear in all seats. I would x on 1 in the pass out seat.
Fluffy
I think I would always bid if I have 11 HCP in balancing sit and less than 3 of their suit. double has a wide range here, so understanding lebensohl is very important.
mycroft
I play that second-hand action over a preempt is sound, so I have to balance light. As such, I thought about passing #1, but wouldn't do it; everything else is, like most have said, WTP X. I can't afford to not balance with those hands; partner will have game for me more often than -500, and safety short of 3♥ much more often than -300. Also, they have to work out what to do even when we do step in it.
nige1
Agree with Mycroft: if immediate action is sound, then all are worth a protective double.
