1eyedjack
I just rented a pair of GIBs to sit as opponents to me and a mentee in the MBC. Silly me, I told GIB to take as long as permitted to think about its bids and plays (I wanted it to play a sensible game). Well, it played a sensible game, but it took an absolute AGE thinking about the hands. That is not a complaint, but it concerns me that GIB appears to take NOTHING LIKE so much time when it is playing in robot tourneys. A possible explanation might be that the server devotes massively more resources to GIBs that are taking part in tourneys. Please someone tell me that this is the case? I am not sure that I am entirely happy about that, having actually paid for the GIBs that are playing at my table at the MBC, but I can see that the price paid is cheaper so perhaps fair game. Stephen Tu
You only get thinking time parameter on the old downloadable PC client, on which GIB computes on your own machine. This can be quite slow especially if you have an older machine. The tourney GIBs and the one that operate on the web client are running on BBO's server farm. I imagine it's most likely they can't devote as much time as to truly maximize GIB's capabilities, it has to be in line with the amount of revenue they are drawing from the tourneys etc.
cloa513
Except GIB locks up on my playing Solitaire so long that they close the table. As long as it free I don't care about it.
