East's double is risky with such weak ♠ but still tempting. West's 4♠ is fine. When 4♠ is doubled East may have some misgivings but neither player has much reason to run. ArtK78 Posted July 3, 2013 Report Share Posted July 3, 2013 Let me see the NS hands and I will be able to answer the question. :) I would think that you should be in 5♦ (presumably doubled) which will go down 2 tricks in all likelihood (AK of spades, A of hearts and a spade ruff). There is a small chance that you can hold 4♠x to down 1 or even making, but it is more likely that you will go for a large number in 4♠x. At the table, it would have to be East who would do the running. But I don't know that either partner can really run from 4♠x with any reasonable confidence that it is right to run.
