  1. 1. What woudl you bid with this hand?

    • Pass - they are probably in the wrong spot
      20
    • 5D - tell partner about the double fit
      4
    • 5H - confuse the auction, partner clearly will return to spades
      0
    • 5S - We have diamond/spade fit, press on is safest imp bid
      2

hi ben,

5d seems fail on this one then, i didn't realize that the 5c bidder could hold 5 card hearts !  do you have the full hand, i need to read the spade and diamond fit by our side.

thanks,

shan

Event Topflight: (yes, they occassionaly let me play... don't show them my 5 bid here... since no double, I won 1.5 imps, would have done better if I pass. The problem with this hand is one pair, after finding their heart fit, made a 4 cue-bid, got doubled, redoubled to show first round control and played in 4xx by the hand with a void...so not many imps to be won our way or lost either. Even in topflight an occassional odd thing happens.... Yes even odder than my very rare preemptive bid (3 and then me bid again (5).

ic, ben, EW hands is mirror on the side suit. very bad, since west hold only 4 card spade, unfornately.

BTW, 5D by east seems only down 1, unless they can get spade ruff.

further question, if west held 55 shape, then 5D by east may be better option ?

would opps find 5/6h contract at high level, it seems 50/50 chance.

anyway, the original 1s garanteed 4 card spade is making the things slightly different. then Pass is truely winning choice.

X of 3S??? yikes!!!

Just is right. Is there any doublt that if double 3!S that is where you will play (given your partner's five spades)? That would be a true disaster for NS (well not as bad as 4S by south doubled and redoubled down six--that is -2800 for NS--that happened at one table, but still very bad).
