ArtK78
I hereby submit a nomination for the best trump holding in a supporting role. Regional Swiss Teams, Vul vs. Not. Partner opens 1♣ (standard) and RHO passes. I held: Txx---JxAKQJTxxx I found an inverted raise of 2♣ which is unconditionally game forcing in our methods. The auction continued: 1♣ - (P) - 2♣ - (x)P - (4♥) - 5♣ - ALL PASS We missed a reasonable slam. Partner held: KQ9xQJxAQxxxx The spade AJxx was onside, but the ♦K was offside. On a spade lead to the Ace and a diamond return, my partner chose to finesse which was about 100% safe for 11 tricks. At the other table, the bidding was the same but my hand bid 6♣(!). On a heart lead, declarer decided to finesse the diamond and went down. I told a few people about this hand, and David Hoffner said he could top it. He told me that one time his partner held AKQJxxxx of hearts and heard his LHO open 1♣ and David overcall 2♥!
han
If one guy bids 5C and the other bids 6C, perhaps pass is the right answer.
MickyB
I once had a partner overcall 1D when I held nine to the AKQJ.
Cyberyeti
My 2 nominations: AQJxxxxx and out in support of a suit where I showed 4 and this hand never bid them. Opps got in a muddle with what their doubles meant at low level, on an auction something like 1♥-P-1N-X-2♣-X-P-P-P, this was not too taxing opposite Kxxx trumps. Partner opened a weak 2♦ and I was looking at a 27 count with ♦AKQJxx.
Fluffy
My partner had KJ10xxxx to support my 4 level overcall (3[he)-4♦-(4♥), he suspected rightly that he shouldn't raise to 5♦ because something was going on, but he said he wouldn't want to enter the history books as the first guy to not even give a single raise to partner with 7 card support. manudude03
This hand won't win the suit quality award, but my partner once had the pleasure of having 9xxxxxx in diamonds, and I had just introduced them at the 5 level :). http://www.eurobridge.org/Repository/competitions/11Albena/microSite/Asp/BoardAcross.asp?qboard=020.10..890 Our auction was:1H-P-1S!-2H!!3H-4S-P-P5D-X-AP !- kaplan inversion (<5 spades, forcing NT hand)!!-Spades and clubs North didn't find the club lead, so I made 11 tricks after misguessing the hearts. gordontd
I once had eight-card support for my partner's second suit! 1♠-1NT2♣(promising 4) I raised to 5♣, going two off for an average board.
