your bid

luke warm

you're vulnerable, they aren't... your partner showed a 4+ card support forcing spade raise... 5, because of your hearts, forces 5, 6, or 6... i'm just trying to get a sense of what people would bid in that situation

an added question is, what does partner need for the 2nt bid?

unfortunately, i bid 6s... the only "winning" bid was pass

West North East South

 -     1    Pass  2NT

 4NT   6    Pass  Pass

 Pass

as you can see, 5C or 5D is off at least one... my thinking at the time was, the 4nt bid already insured a bad result unless *maybe* i sign off in 5S and 6 doesn't make...

i was influenced by what i perceived the 2NT bid would look like, but jumping to 6S was probably wrong ... i just could see no way to salvage any kind of score short of slam

btw, i wouldn't personally bid 2NT with the south hand, but even over 4H west bids 4NT... also, others playing e/w also bid 4nt, but n/s ended up in the same boat... the ones who made either got no interference else all easts led hearts, even knowing west had minors

I think 5 is the best bid here: no immediate slam ambition, true s as well.  Partner should bid 5 with his hand.

5H must show slam interest. I admit I will bid to at least 5S and go down. This should be credit to opp's high level intevention

I disagree. If you have slam ambition, you can easily bid one of the minors for cue...

Yes, I didnt cue them cause I dont have them. If you have no ambition but want to play at the five level, why not simply bid 5S? 5S shows no interest in slam, so 5H must show interest.

5H I think is showing what you have, and leaving it to partner to make the correct decision. Just because you might not have huge slam interest, partner might well do.

And if you don't bid Jacoby 2NT with the South hand, what else do you do? SPlinter is awful, since for partner to cue a minor suit ace takes you past 4S.

I don't know what is the best here.

But I remeber two general rules we use.

-When opponents bid two suits we use them to show our suits and strong hand.

e.g.

1s-2nt(minors)-?

3c are heards and strong hand, 3d show spade fit, 3h and 3s is passable.

-When GF was made pass is forcing.

Does any of them apply here?

And what does dbl. show now?
