Aberlour10
Imagine, you wake up and there is a new bridge game with 56 cards incl. 4 "Ceasars"♠♥♦♣ Countig 5 for each we would have 60 hcp in a game. The top contacts Ultimate Slams= 14 tricks, Grand Slam 13, no old slams A new game level at >>>4NT, 5♠♥ 6♦♣?? Would the old conventions be useless or needed only new ranges? 1NT with 19-24? Lets try to develope some things, ideas, conventions ( not necesserily serious)B-)
barmar
Is this just a way to legitimize all the r.g.b posts with 14-card hands? Since everything goes up one level, it seems like it's basically the same game. There's likely to be more competition, but you also have more room to describe your hands below game level, so bidding should be more accurate. Players who find cue bidding 1st or 2nd round control confusing will like this, now there's almost always enough room to bid aces first. You can also use double jump shifts for 1-card splinters, triple jump shifts for void splinters.
Aberlour10
^What about the card play? Would this format complicate the technical expert play much or not so?
Vampyr
Jokers would be more fun.
manudude03
A few years ago, me and the other Irish juniors played a variation where 4 jokers replaced 4 random cards which are not shown. They could be played at any time, only condition being you have to say what the joker is acting as when you play it.
Lord Molyb
[hv=pc=n&s=sXkth87dkqjt3caq94&w=s987643ht94d76542c&n=saj52hkq6d98cXkj65&e=sqhXaj532dXact8732]399|300[/hv]Let the x's be the new card higher than ace. How would you bid these hands?(north dealer) My auction is:1NT - 2♥ - 3♦ - P3♠ - P - 4♣ - P4NT - P - P - PI'm expecting 4NT, 5 of a suit to be game level (maybe 6♣, 6♦?). 1NT is 20-22 (north upgrades his 5-card suit), 2♥ is cappelletti, 3♦ is forcing (lebensohl), and 3♠ shows the four card major. South probes for a better strain in case north has no heart stopper, and north bids the excellent game in no-trump.North takes 4 spades, 1 red-suit trick (endplaying east), and 5 clubs to score his game. Game should be bid in general with 40 points?
manudude03
I would stop counting jacks and continue using the 4321 system (joker, A,K,Q) so....1C-1H-2D-P2NT-3C-4NT-AP.
Lord Molyb
if we insist on a 4321 system we could just make the new card 11, between 10 and jack.
Fluffy
if we insist on a 4321 system we could just make the new card 11, between 10 and jack. obviously what you should do is give it a 1, below the 2 and stop complicating things unnecesarilly
Fluffy
I've seen many variations of bridge, 2s being able to revoke was fun but unpredictable, I enjoied a lot the one where you bid with LHO's cards, and at the end of the bidding gave the cards to him. I though of a variation trying to emulate old book contracts where there is a lot of moysan fits and stuff like that, on that variation instead of sides vulnerable, the suits are vulnerable, so from time to time you have to decide if you stay on a safe 3NT, or risk for the vulnerable 4 hearts on the 4-3 fit. I could never try it :(
manudude03
"Pass left" is a pretty fun game :) One of my partner's once tried to develop a pass-left system, it didn't go too far.
CamHenry
if we insist on a 4321 system we could just make the new card 11, between 10 and jack. "My deck goes up to 11!""Yes, but why don't you just make the T more useful?" ... "These go up to 11."
ggwhiz
"My deck goes up to 11!""Yes, but why don't you just make the T more useful?" ... "These go up to 11." Thanks a lot. My head just exploded. Might as well tinker with the scoring a bit more. We need a bonus for a Big Bottom?
FM75
http://linda.bridgeblogging.com/2013/01/04/ghoulie-rules-as-requested/ It is a little vague on the actual scoring, but it makes for a very interesting variant on the standard game - A good game for individuals of nearly equal skill since it is more of an individual game than a partnership one. It is rare that the game is played below the 5 level.
