In your style the ToX would tend to be 7+ with 4♥ and either 4-5♣ or 3♠ or both. Your 1♠ is 4+ cards but will be 5 unless 15-19 4333.

I would pass and expect to get 500 more often than not.

I will go for the shot at +500. I may be a bit unhappy now and again when partner has shaded the double when they are 5/5. I am getting the S lead and do not think declarer is reaching dummy too often.

And this was the rub, it's a bad 2♦ overcall, it's a worse 3♦ overcall, but I suspect 2♦ is 500/800, 3♦ is -300/400 either going off 3/4 or 3N=. Partner's hand is J9x, Qxxx, J7, K109x, 3N is solid, 4♠ I suspect goes off (overcaller has ♠Kxx and a doubleton club. Dummy has ♥K, declarer has J)

4S is certainly cold on a top diamond lead and made easily at both tables I know of.

The overcaller has K9 J9xx AK107x 8x and dummy has J8x Qxxx Jx K109x

OK, thought he had the 3rd spade for some reason, we didn't really care as we collected 500, 3N is much better than 4♠ though, 9♠ in the small hand is enough to beat 4♠.

 

Edit, am I missing something, how do you proceed in 4♠on 3 rounds of diamonds and a 4th when in with K♠

You are right not to be sure. It is possible to make it if West has:

My only concern is that partner might be 3415 and slam is a possibility.

 

Kxx, Kxxx x KJxxx isn't out of the question though it is a bit specific. We'll take a bunch of tricks defending 2 diamonds, 4 blacks, a couple of hearts, a trump and many possibilities of extra with tapping declarer giving us another 3 off is 800 and that's when slam is close, so I pass as it's more likely that we are getting at least 500 VS a 430/450 type score. And 800 is a possibility if partner has more than 1 trump!

I ruff the third round with the jack and play spades from the top. I think this caters for most possibilities (including some of the 9x combos with East).

 

East's discard may have some bearing, though. Basically, I am playing West to have Kxx in spades, the club jack and a heart honour (either will do, and I expect the defence to tell me who has the king). This seems a lot better than playing West for 2452 precisely with K9 doubleton. As you have worked out, if West had K9 Jxx AKTxx Jxx, East can prevent us enjoying dummy's club winner.

 

In the ending, West gets squeezed in the round suits.

Interesting, I suspect you change tack when the 9♠ drops under the A, cash ♣AQ, ruff the 4th ♦ with the 8 and pitch your heart on the club K, so that works in this case.

 

Really unpleasant false card from K9x though.
