DenisO
Since about a week ago, I've got a wireless network for our 3 PCs. These operate behind a router with inbuilt hardware firewall which will block incoming intruder activity. For max protection I'm told I also need a software firewall to prevent unwanted outbound traffic. All 3 PCS have XP but the XP firewall won't stop outward traffic. I'm currently trying Kerio Personal Firewall on my host PC. Only problem so far is that when I have this enabled it takes about 30 secs to logon to BBO (V3.9.6) If I disable the firewall I can logon in less than 5 secs. I wonder if anyone else has experience with Kerio or seen increased logon times with firewalls? Denis
uday
When bbo is launched, it attempt to make a connection on port 9999. When this fails, it tries port 80. My guess is that your firewall is blocking bbo on its usual port. You can test this theory by editing c:\bridge base online\bbover.ini Change =9999 to =80 and save the file. If the login now takes 5 seconds, then the firewall is probably blocking 9999
scoob
at home i have a router and use zonealarm as my outbound protector - i notice no difference in my login times when zonealarm is disabled; if uday's suggestion doesn't clear it up for you, perhaps try switching your software. Presumably OK to keep this new setting? Denis
uday
Would be better to fix the firewall. Port 80 works most of the time. New versions of BBO have a habit of replacing your ini file as well. So it is ok to keep it, but you need to remember to check it once in a while.
