the hog
Serious question? I cannot see anything but 2D here.
straube
2H for me. Sure, 2D could result in an 8-cd fit, but it also might be a horrible 4/3. As a bonus, I like that 2H limits my hand more than 2D because it's easier to scrounge up a 2H call than a negative double or a 2D call. CSGibson
My hand has no value in a 2 heart contract, but might have value in a 2 diamond contract, so I think this is a standard 2d call.
ggwhiz
2♦ is normal. The weirdness in me wants to bid 2♣ once in a while and certainly before bidding 2♥.
biggerclub
One thing I know, if I bid 2d, I am winning the PM. Not always a good aim, but tips the balance here.
mycroft
Winning the PM should not be the aim; but "when one has a choice, not making the call that will lose the PM" isn't a bad club to have in your bag. Having said that, I can't see what call will lose the PM here (except, I guess, pass).
gszes
a calm quiet and serene 2d bid without the slightest bit of discomfortI have garbage and p deserves to hear where that garbage is.
straube
What do we do after... 1H (1S) P P dbl P 2D (2S)dbl P ?
CSGibson
What do we do after... 1H (1S) P P dbl P 2D (2S)dbl P ? Presumably partner is 1=5=3=4 with a 20 count for this, but I suppose partner could be other things too. I would bid 2N, 2 places to play, then correct 3C to 3D.
mikeh
I bid 2 hearts in response to the initial double because it immediately denotes a very weak hand. If I have 3 card support, I was too weak to raise initially. If I own only 2card support, I must have no decent 4 card minor else I would bid it. I would bid 2 diamonds if I were sure that partner wouldn't stretch to protect me should I have say xxx xx KQxxx Jxx (what else do you suggest for this hand after the 1 spade overcall or the reopening double?) When I hold such a terrible hand and have reason to expect partner to be strong,I want to discourage as clearly as possible. 2 diamonds may on some layouts prove superior but I think it too likely to get partner bidding once too much.
