DBL or 3nt

Pass and not even close. From where are my tricks going to come in 3NT?

From my and partner's cards I guess.

When I open a strong notrump and partner raises to 3NT I rarely know where my tricks will be coming from before I inspect the dummy.

Our ability to "sever" opps club commumications by ducking the first round

of clubs in conjunction with being able to play the hand double dummy

should give us a reasonable chance of making 3n. Rho didnt try for game

which increases the expected power from p somewhat. If we have no play

for 3n there is a very good chance that 3c will make so any loss we take from

going down will have minimal impact. The risk vs reward of IMPS seems

reasonable. At MP a pass is just as reasonable a way to try for a top as

bidding 3N though I admit the 3N flag is waving in front of me and I will

probably charge anyway.

IMO 3N =10 pass = 8 dbl = 6 nothing is perfect preempts work keep doing them.

From YOUR cards? Pray tell, which long suit are you going to develop?

let me join my voice to the chorus of 3N bids. The passers will occasionally prove to have made the winning call on the actual hand, whatever it turns out to have been, but the 3N bidders are going to be the long term winners, IMO.

Passing is a pretty wild gamble (though still superior to double).

We don't know if our teammates opened 3.

For all we know our LHO made this a gambling

board. 3NT, double, and pass are all high

variance actions. 4333 patterns are not

conducive to generating tricks. KQx may

produce only one trick. Partner rates to hold

only 8 points. Partner may need 11 points to

make 3NT clearly over 40%. Pass is not that

unreasonable.

Whenever I have a hand like this and I worry about bidding 3NT because I can't see a source of tricks, then decide to bid 3NT anyway, I seem to end up with 10 tricks.

Apart from the time I went for 800, but that's less likely on this auction.

I'm another 3NT bidder. Anything else is masterminding.
