Winstonm
IMO if partner cannot make a takeout double of 4S then I am seriously magic-handing to bid now, meaning I have to require my partner to hold specific red-suit cards to cover enough of my losers to make bidding profitable. By bidding, I could easily turn a plus into a minus. Bidding can only be right if: A) I can go down less than the value of their game, provided 4S makes or B) I have a vulnerable game or slam that I would have found had I not been deprived of bidding room. I see no strong case for either potential, so I believe this is a clear-cut pass.
gnasher
I'd pass. Double is likely to get an unwelcome 5♣ from partner.
wanoff
4NT. If in doubt, bid.
dake50
Double for a club lead.Hope partner's CA +C-ruff +SA +partner's winner was necessary to set.Or partner has no CA but his SP C-lead lets me win SA +to partner +C-ruff +H-winner. 0 carbon
Worth a double, hoping P has some !♠ & trix. If not, convert 5♣ to 5♦, which P may change to 5♥. This should show long/good red suits - which all behind the ♠ bidder's P.
the hog
Double for a club lead.Hope partner's CA +C-ruff +SA +partner's winner was necessary to set.Or partner has no CA but his SP C-lead lets me win SA +to partner +C-ruff +H-winner. Really? I would not be surprised to hear partner bid 5C, not pass. I pass.
rogerclee
4NT. If in doubt, bid.I agree with the statement, but I don't really have any serious doubts about this one, easy pass.
lesh
what's the score? From your perspective it is somewhere around a draw or very little for you or them :)
gszes
My counter-part will almost assuredly face the same problem I have. We have enough potential to make game or even slam when p wasunable to bid at unfavorable over 4s. The down side is p range ofpossible values is huge and by huge I mean those values can bepretty darn small. Rho may easily have most of the remaining powerand are just doing all they can to keep from drooling at the prospect of a match clinching penalty. As aptly put by Clint Eastwood characterdirty harry "are you feeling lucky punk?" There is no good reason to assume one way or another what type of hand p holds. We know they do not hold all of the remainingpower outside of spades !HAQJ !DAJ !CAKQJ there is no way theywould have been quiet over 4s. If RHO was void in spades they veryeasily might pass with all that stuff (they won't pass whatever OURside bids however). The odds seem very much stacked against youand sometimes being a hero means doing nothing stupid PASS
GreenMan
Not sure what's best on this hand (I'd probably take some sort of action), but I'm amused that threads called "First board of the match" and "Last board of the match" were posted by Phil and Lesh, respectively. :)
akhare
The presumptive trump suit (♦) has good texture and this hand may fare better than the other hand where they opened 4♠, but my vote is still Pass.
lesh
Depending on what you decide to do in this board the results would be: Pass - +50DBL - +1005di will result in -1100. Even if you decide to go with 4nt you will correct partner's 5cl to 5di which will be the final contract.
