3D My thinking here is if I got an alternative to raising with only 3 then that will often (not100%) be better for auction.

Over 3D still got problem knowing if p has 4 or 5 or 6 spades. Assume 3s is not automatic with 5 poor spades.

Look forward to hearing scientist's bidding 2clubs.

3S is very reasonable choice.

Good problem. I suspect that in the Master Solvers Club you would get substantial number of votes for 2C, 3D, and 3S (with more votes for 3D and 3S than 2C).

I suspect I would bid 3S with most partners and 2C with some of the Canadians I used to play with a lot. I don't like I could bring myself to bid 3D even though that is probably the "book bid". The way I was brought up this pretty much guarantees a stronger suit than AJxxxx. With the 10 of diamonds I would feel a lot better about a 3D rebid.

Maybe you should unask the question and open 1NT :)

I will say, a la maniere de Al Roth, "if I get by this round..."

and I will bid 2D.

I cannot stand 3S on a three-carder and 3D on this suit

seems wrong.

Moreover, being vul at MPs is an incentive to score in

the plus column and avoid -200s.

That said, opponents' silence does make it probable

that pard owns 5-4 in the majors, but if this is the case

he will probably speak again over 2D. If we rebid 3D or 3S

we may well endplay him.

This is why I play following with my natural-partner:

1m - pass - 1M - pass

?

3m = maximum, 6+m, 3 card M support

3NT = maximum, 6+m, 0-2 M

So an easy 3 bid  ;)

So I suppose this hand is maximum for you !

So with

[hv=s=sakhaxdajxxxxcxxx]133|100|[/hv]

you bid 3NT ??????? :o :o

Cannot understand that !

Do you really think you will have some play when partner has 6 or 7 or 8 HCP ??

At the table, I tried 2. Part to temporize, and part as a semi-psyche to avoid the lead against 3N. One hand proves nothing, but I knew if I could get past this round, we'd be in great shape. Auction continued:

1 - 1

2 - 2N

3 - 4

4 - 5

6 - Pass

And I bought:

[hv=s=sjxxxhkxxdktxxcax]133|100|[/hv]

We were the only ones to reach slam. 3N makes the expected 11 tricks. 4 makes on the nose, if you play it right; if you try for 11, I think you lose control (QTxx behind the AKx) with a club lead.

Over 3; pard is endplayed into 3 I suppose. Same with 3, but woe to the Serious 3N players out there on this hand :blink:

I love my pard's 4 call. He knows I'm short in hearts, so 5 rates to be better than 3N.
