Fluffy writes "3 is led, plan the play"

My effort was A, A, KJ, K, AQ (discarding s).

Since there's no claim option, I continued 9 (ruffed by defender's Q). I ruffed the return and tried to cash K but Fluffy's program got huffy and informed me that the defence had two tricks :(

Nevertheless, I think Fluffy's program is a wonderful learning aid :) Thank you, Fluffy :)

I tried this one and three times in six rounds of bidding I tried to choose a call that wasn't allowed.

Was reasonably pleased I stopped short of slam after I saw what was opposite, however.

You seem to have problems with your server. Are you hosting this on a 24x7 site with a static IP address? Is your server crashing and not restarting itself?

Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to www.bridgegod.com

  • Try reloading the page
  • Search on Google:

the page si down for the second morning in a row, preventinve maintenance or something they say... I uploaded the page 10 days ago, and already 2 downtimes... probably didn't pick the right hosting.

Well good luck whatever you do. Another possibility is your server takes too long to respond. But since it sometimes works, that seems less likely. Maybe wrong hosting is the issue. Do they have a "service level agreement"?

If they have to bring a server down for "preventive maintenance" shouldn't they be handling that by rerouting the IP address internally to a server that is up and running your software?

I have had a site up on GoDaddy in the US for several years now and have never heard of an outage on the site. We changed the registrar to them when the registration was about to expire. I have no experience with whether they work well outside the US. This site is only of very local interest (Central New Jersey).

Maybe heroku would work for you. You can get '750 hours' per month free from them. For that, you are running just a single server 24 hours per day (or 2 - 12 hours per day, etc.). You can also scale it up and down as needed.

I started the auction the same way as your spoiler auction, but partner bid 3D over 2S. After the end of the auction his hand was somewhat unexpected!

Many thanks for the detailed report nige, I could spot 2 mistakes due to it on the playbot.

What actually happened to you is that the smart playbot on your left, when he realiced that you were going to ruff his club trick now, quickly put his club winner on the table, and 3 from his hand in front of dummy, and claimed that the trick was over wich happened to be the setting trick. Quite smart :P

I realice I should had spend more time with the bidding. I skipped some options and some steps.

I also told the defence that 10 and 9 are irrelevant so 50% of the time 13 tricks are 'possible' after the grossvenor, gonna change that.

I did this hand a few minutes ago. I had no problem with your site with either the bidding or the play. I am using Chrome.

After 4th suit forcing (which was doubled) and agreement on spades and a 2NT rebid by opener, each partner cue bid clubs, diamonds, hearts, mark time with 3, diamonds, hearts, RKCB, answer, 6.

The play was similarly unremarkable. Club lead won with the Ace. Spade K, Spade to the Ace, two top hearts, cross in diamonds, hearts from the top, pitching clubs.

Apparently, your original question was whether it is better to take the spade finesse or to just cash AK of spades and then try to run the hearts pitching the clubs if the Q does not fall. While I did not do the calculations, I believe that two top spades is the right play unless you have some strong reason to believe that the hand in front of the AJxx of spades has spade length.

my calculations without accounting the 2 double made it closer that I'd expect at first, that's because finese allows to make on most 4-1 onside lie outs. So finese is slightly below 50%, while running hearts is slightly above 50%.

The 2 double does not affect much the run the hearts line, but it makes the spade finese a non favourite.

I could add the option for 2XX perhaps. +960 to compare to +980 looks funny :)

So far 21 persons played the hand, but only 3 cared to finnish it properly to submit the score, they are +450, +980, +980. Perhaps because you need to do a final last click on the middle to see the full hand to submit the score I need to change that.

But look, you can register, play the hand, and be the first logged in person to achieve 980, your record will last on top forever :)

EDIT: ArtK had got the first logged in +980 spot already, congrats to him.

Please make declarer South :(

This is extremelly complicated as I wrote the code, however I just though it is very easy to move playerboxes to put north at the bottom, rotating the board is the only painy thing.

EDIT: Done, but the board rotation will wait in the todo list for a while.

LOL, I tried to raise 1 to 6 and it wouldn't let me. So I got there the "proper" way. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif (No, this is NOT how I would bid at the table)

I picked a crude line (A, A-K, unblock hearts, K, run hearts). I'm a little surprised that it worked. But if the math problem is figuring out the best line, I don't think it's so "simple", hehe.

Artk78's line is better than my crude attempt :) It succeeds when the player with three s has more than two s (even when s are 6-0)

  • 1 year later...
I bidded 4 and ended with 2 more. A thing that confuse me is that if i bid 3 over 1 for me is 14-18 but i know that other players use this bidding as limitative (with minus force). Infact my intention was to bid six but having to chose between 4(=splinter? that i don't use) i bidded 4 for pass.

Niceproblem! I was also surprised that my lazy / crude line worked but the bidding struck me.

After 4sf is Xed, I wouldnt bet that 2s is a 4-cd support, I would tend to think 3 and no stopper of c, and no other good call, and could still be invitational only (eg. what do you do with Kxx AQxxx Qx xxx or a jack more). So I would have bid 3s clearly forcing (or 4 if I am pessimistic but I liked my hand lol).

Also, the opener with 2 stiff honors in responder’s suit never sghows his tolerance (since he denied support by passing the X he cant really be any better) and bids 2nt with a dubious stopper.
