If partner were a good player, would you bid differently? EDIT - She is a lifetime C player, with no hope of advancing because she just plays 'for fun'. The auction and play are unbelievable; I'll post them once I get a few more responses. EDIT 2 - It is MPs.
TylerE
Weak or poor? There is a difference....is partner a novice, or is partner a lifetime C player with fully-activated bad judgement circuits? Actually, in either case, I *pass*. Double looks obvious at first glance, but do we _really_ expect partner to have 4 of a major here? If anything I'd wager he has a minor two suiter and it goes 2♣ - X - float, scoring an area code.
niki98
I think I may bid 2♥. Not a great bid but Pass isn't better in my opinion.
CamHenry
What form of scoring? This smells like a misfit, and if it's MPs I pass when oppo are vulnerable.
the_clown
I am passing if partner doubles I would bid 4♣ to show both majors.
rhm
I am passing if partner doubles I would bid 4♣ to show both majors. In the absence of a club raise, LHO cannot be strong nor have too many clubs. Partner's reopening DBL of 2♣ is unlikely to be based on very short clubs. Most likely the clubs are distributed 2=6=2=3 round the table and partner with some support for both majors has a weak notrump type hand with a doubleton club, 12-14 HCP with 3♠=3♥=5♦=2♣ seems likely. This gives RHO a sound club overcall. It depends a bit how much strength partner has in diamonds, but 4♥ looks scary to me. Modern reopening doubles do not promise much. Somehow passing and then getting excited for no good reason is not the way to go. I think jumping to 3♥ over a reopening DBL is more than enough. Of course but passing now seems to be my best shot at declaring the hand after pard bids more diamonds and I keep running. Pards profile seems to take a float out of the picture. gszes
XIts MP live a little if we get slaughtered its only 1 hand and there is avery nice chance for a top here. We could end up in 2h 2s 3h 3s or even game. Note that most of our triumphs will be part scores andthat is not a good thing when weighing risk vs reward at IMPS. At MPthere are enough good things that can happen that will more thanmake up for the occasional horrid. Pass if you are leading the event:)
rmnka447
Pass. Yeah, I've got length in the majors, but I'm void in partner's suit. By my light, the hand's a misfit. So I'll try to get out of the auction as quickly and as low as possible. If pard reopens with 2 ♦, it's likely a 6 card suit and may have some play. If pard doubles, I can bid a major and not have pard expect too much.
chasetb
As promised, the full auction and play happened below. We play 16-18 as 1NT, don't ask me why she didn't open it 1NT or lead either AK on trick 1. If we set them, I would have gained 0.35 Black points, and I still need almost 25 black to get my LM (the games don't pay that much locally, and on top of it I can't play normally).[hv=pc=n&s=st843h8752dqj85ca&w=sak2hakdkt742c876&n=sjhqda963ckjt5432&e=sq9765hjt9643dcq9&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=1d2cp2np3nppdppp&p=d4d3h3d5cac6c2c9dqd2d6h4djdkdah6ckcqh2c7cjs5h5c8cts6h7s2c5h9h8d7c4s7s3hkc3s9d8skhqhts8hasasjsqs4dtd9hj]399|300[/hv]
ggwhiz
Ahah the black point dilemma. We had a transplant very expert player show up in our clubs and when they announce "this is a silver point game" it would bring her to tears. Took her about 3 Canadian championships before she could get her blacks. All I can think of generally here is stay on play. Takeout doubles are for your pard to make. Maybe you or others have strategies in mind.

Playing with someone that clueless is worse than not playing, as it'll only give bad habits you have to train out later.
