Lord Molyb
Many of my auctions start with me opening 1 of a major. These two auctions happen a lot.1♥ - 3♥4♦ 1♠ - 3♠4♦ 3 of a major is a limit raise and 4♦ is a cuebid, showing a diamond control and, theoretically, denying a club control. GIB will bid 4NT with both of the following hands:♠ AQxx ♥ Qxxxx ♦ x ♣ QJx♠ AQxx ♥ Qxxxx ♦ QJx ♣ x This has gotten me to a lot of slams with my ♣s being something like xx opposite QJx, and they always lead a club on this auction no matter their cards. However, only the second hand is suitable for blackwood in this scenario, since I denied a club control. We don't want to be in a slam off two top losers, do we? The problem is, GIB will push for slam in hearts with both hands opposite something like ♠ Kx ♥ AKJxx ♦ AKx ♣ xx once I bid 4 diamonds. My question is: should and does the system have 4♦ denying a club control?
manudude03
In the gib system, it only denies a first round control in clubs. Second round control is possible. Should it be like that, imo no, but some pairs do play that.
Antrax
Note that for GIB a cue bid shows extra strength beyond the control. So it's possible it simulates you've very likely to have filler in clubs and trots out BW.
gwnn
I thought GIB's 4m here was length/strength showing (help suit slam try) as opposed to just a cue. In that case it shouldn't deny a cue in lower suits per se (I'm not even sure if it should show a control, wouldn't it be nice to be able to bid it sometimes on QJxx? I guess that hand is just about impossible though if you have a slam try opposite 10-11). Has this changed?
Antrax
Yeah, it changed in version 24: http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/48870-gib-version-19-released/page__view__findpost__p__674933
gwnn
:) thanks for that. Too bad, I think HSST is a better method (although they shouldn't cater to my preferences since obviously I don't use robots).

manudude03
It felt it had enough information I guess. I really don't like how often it takes control.
