JLOGIC
The auction went 1S on my right, 1N on my left, 4S on my right. I led something and dummy had a trump void. RHO won and played a low trump, I had QJ97 and played low. Unsurprisingly partner had Ax, and now declarer with KT8xxxx had no choice but to play a low trump next. Had I played the 9, he would undoubtedly have played the king next catering to J9 or Q9 with me and gone down. As a double dummy suit combo this is probably trickier since there are some tricks with Q9 and J9 playing the Q or J on the first round, but irl I'm sure the 9 gets the king next and obv low gets low next. I had never seen this play but my partner immediately said something about playing the 9 which kind of blew my mind, he said within the last year he had the same suit combo as declarer and they played the 9 so he thought what a good play that'd be from QJ9x. As usual, these things are just pattern recognition, unfortunately I had never seen it since it would be a cool play to make.
Stephen Tu
Yet another application of the one thing I most remember from Rosenberg's book, "play the 9 unless you must".

I think he was right first time. You're not likely to play the Q from Q9 in case partner is A10x.From QJ97, Q or J might have looked like AQ or AJ doubleton.
