IMPs, all red, partner deals and opens 1 and RHO raises the ante with 4N.

1 - (4N):

You hold: AKJXX J9X Ax Axx

What's your bidding strategy with this hand? Would you bid differently if your pard's hand is limited to 15 HCPs?

To limit the number of possibilities, assume that RHO will bid if you X:

If you X, RHO bids 5 and pard will Pass

I think we can easily eliminate the 5M bids, since pd will have no idea how strong our hand is. Same goes for 6M bids since we may play in wrong contract.

What is left to us is 5 and 5 bids, and not mentioned 5NT bid which asks pd (hopefully not josephine) to pick a major slam. Will pd accept slam invitation in hearts with Qxx AKTxx Qx xxx ?

The negative side is, 4NT in red suggests that RHO has a wild hand, and our majors will break badly. Positive side is, holding 2 minor Aces leaves pd with a lot of major hcps.

I would just bid 5NT. This takes pd's attention on spades even if we do not have a fit in this suit , he knows Q spade is gold. Obviously if we have 5-4 spade fit we wanna play in spades. Tbh i don't know how we will reach to grandslam if we have it. Perhaps with spade goodies he may cue at 6 level to show solid hearts and spade support, i will leave it to our "we have an auction for every situation under any circumstances and we never miss anything" crowd.

I do not like starting double simply because i want to shut down LHO if i can(-800 instead of -1430 or 1440 will not be unusual in this auction)
