  1. 1. Bid?

I don't quite like it but I'll 'Hamman' it. I don't see us getting rich on 3X. Pass is too little, 4 might not be right and 4... well that might be another option.

Double or 3NT

Knowing my luck when i double pd will hold xxx or Q or AQJTxxxx and cold for 3NT. If i bid 3NT pd will hold stiff or xx and AJTxxxx and god knows what else (QTx or Jx )which makes us kill them in 3. Blah.

I have 17 and RHO has about an opener, pd will have some stuff in diamonds, and LHO will likely pass if i pass. But we may get +500 in some of the hands that we can make 3NT.

I'll double. I don't fancy my chances in 3NT opposite a first seat white 3D opener.

I'm hoping for 300 and 3NT or 5D not making.

preempts work and this time they are apparently working against you. Since

even vulnerability has given your partnership no understanding about dia

suit quality you have to guess like everyone else. IMO this is best done with a

4c bid since I will have play for 5c if p has as little as AQxxxx(x) in dia and 3 little clubs.

More importantly it would seem we have little to gain by x of 3s. Even if we set it

it might not make up for us making 3d. Bidding 4c gives us two chances to improve

our fate.

1. we might bid and make 5c or 4d

2. opps will push to 4s and we may be able to x there to vastly improve our score.

I can see wanting to take the money and run but that looks more like an IMP decision than a MP

decision. I like x a heck of a lot more than the hugely speculative 3n.

Double looks pretty clear at MPs unless pard is a VERY conservative preempter with white pockets. Most people aren't, so prospects for 3 NT making aren't good -- no guarantee of an entry to run s. In the meantime, it looks like you'll need help from pard to have more than 1 spade stopper.
