Bidding

Recommended Posts

1-2 (must be fit by a passed hand or you'd open 2 in first seat if you play WJS)

would be a good start, you will now get to 3N or 5 in comfort.

I would not pass the west hand.

If west was not a passed hand, by our methods (I'm not good enough for the fit bid by an unpassed hand):

1-2(10+ with 4 clubs/9+ with 5+)

2(non minimum asking)-2N (minimum, at least 4 diamonds)

3N

We play a weak no trump so don't have to deal with the weak no trump in our inverted sequences.

Hi and thank you for your response. Can you tell me what you use for your im responses by opener? We play weak nt (12-14) too. Is the 2D bid asking? If opener shows a maximum by bidding a major, is that asking or telling?

What we play is in the context of a weak no trump 4+ card club which makes it much easier. (1C-3N is 16-19 balanced with 4 clubs and no 4 card major, we fit jump with an unpassed hand with HHxxx in our suit and Hxxx in partner's and enough to force to game where H=A,K,Q, direct splinters are specifically voids)

We play 1C-2C as 10+ with 4 or 9+ with 5 clubs and may contain a 4 card major.

Over this 2D is an artificial ask that says "I'm not rock bottom minimum".

2H/S shows 4 of the suit bid and a minimum technically NF but almost never passed

2N shows 4 diamonds and a minimum NF

3C shows 6 clubs, no 4 card major and a minimum NF

3D/H/S are GF natural

3N is 15-19 3334/(332)5/(32)44 basically strong NT with no 4 card major

Over 1C-2C-2D

2M is natural and F1

2N shows 4 diamonds F1 not totally minimum unbalanced

3C shows a rock bottom minimum with no 4 card major

3D/H/S are GF splinters usually with ambitions beyond game

3N is 13-15 bal no 4 card major

something a little more natural

p 1c

1d 1h

3c 3n

you can also use inverted minors

p 1c

2c 2h

3d 3n

both should work nicely since opener would not rebid 2h

unless there was game interest opposite a passed hand

(they would merely bid 3c at which point responder can

bid 3d to make one more game try which will show their

radical distribution).

I agree, especially with the first option. Your cards are soft values towards an 11 trick game and preempting your own ability to reach 3nt is a bit of a crime. The opponents silence as to the major suits should be of comfort here along the way and a 1 response gives them a chance to steer you in the right direction.
