gnasher
Pass. 6♣ isn't likely to make. Partner signed off in 5♣, and now he's signed off again with double. He's likely to be 4216 or 4126, and he won't have as much as a heart honour as well as ♣AK or ♣AJ10. There's a risk of an immediate diamond ruff, and there may well be communication problems when ruffing partner's spade losers. The defence to 5♠ may need a bit of care, but it seems more likely go off than not. Partner is short in diamonds, so it will be hard for declarer to set his diamonds up. rhm
Pass. ... He's likely to be 4216 or 4126 ... After the 2♣ rebid?3226 or 3127 maybe closer to the markIt looks to me that opponents have a ten card fit and the diamonds may well set up.If East is void in clubs, 5♠ could well make. West bidding is consistent with short diamonds and North with short hearts. West spades can not be good since he passed over 1♥ and East values are in spades. Conclusion: North spade honor(s) may be finessable. 6♣ may be unlikely to fetch, but you will not get rich from 5♠. If a diamond lead beats 6♣ I am not optimistic beating 5♠.Matchpoints makes this complex. At Imps I certainly would bid one more Rainer Herrmann
ewj
Pass?...I splintered, partner bid 5♣ and then doubled 5♠...about as discouraging as is possible in my book
billw55
Clear pass. Could it be another case of forumitis where the obvious bid lost at the table? Mike777, what is wrong with 1♥, and what do you suggest instead?

But I'd bet RHO has at least 7 diamonds after bidding 5♦ off the AK, so partner (and LHO) has at most one. I also think that his spades are finessable in that he didn't redouble 4SX so he probably doesn't have the SA. Maybe he has KQJ though. Agree that bidding at IMPs is obv. gszes
heres how i read the bidding: 4s x 5c (there were 3 choices here) xx to show spade Apass to show some wasted spade values willingness to x if opps go to 5s5c no wasted spade values and a complete min for previous bidding. well p is exceedingly unlikely to have any values in diamonds or spades so the onlyquestion is what looks like a minimum 1c opener? xxx Kxx x AKxxxx well i surely dont want to be playing 5sx is p has that as we have a chance tomake 6c and 5s may also make so it seems even at MP our best bet is to bid 6c
kfay
Here was the full hand: [hv=pc=n&s=shqt32dak732cq432&w=sq432hak7654dqcj5&n=skj5hj98dcakt9876&e=sat9876hdjt98654c&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=1c1d1hp2c2s4sd5c5dd5sdp]399|300[/hv] Frankly, I wasn't surprised at all by the full layout. Although I'm sure some of the 'pass wtp?' crowd will pretend to be shocked. Luckily, you can actually beat 5♠X. During the auction it wasn't clear to me at all that 5♠ couldn't be made. ggwhiz
Mike777, what is wrong with 1♥, and what do you suggest instead? I agree with Mike and would double. When it promises 2 places to play instead of exactly both majors it's much more flexible (with a bit of system) and pard knows what to do with 3-card support. lalldonn
Without regard to the result, I like the NS auction until north bid 5♣ over the double of 4♠. Despite the spade wastage he has a great hand and should pass to show interest. Essentially I actually think they should be bidding slam and north would just be really unlucky that south has everything in diamonds instead of a little more in hearts. (That is until he sees the opening lead.)
