They found an 8 card fit, it may as well be 9 card. And dummy will hit the table with a club void or at least stiff. I am scared to pass this tbh, especially if they have 9th trump.

It gets interesting though, i mean what to bid if i am not passing. Both 2NT and 3 has very bad scenarios i can easily think of while other one is much better or even cold. Even a 3-3 spade fit can be a good spot to play at 2 level, unless the amount of JackD in my blood is making me say silly things :)

I would bid 3 at the table i guess.

You are entitled to get an explanation if RHO takes 2 as delayed Michaels. Sounds to me more like clubs - LHO passed over 1. Pulling seems OK. A 20-20 HCP hand with an 8+ card fit for the opps. Why not pull to 2?

Partner's 1 denies four spades, so RHO probably has five spades if not six.

It is close to passing but it is dangerous if partner has wasted values in spades, so simple 3 from me.

:P Sry my version has no explanation of the bidding. Then 3.

I've changed my mind on this one - I was having a bad day when I answered the first time.

Pass and collect 500 or 800. LHO should be 2416, therefore partner is 3352, and RHO is 5440. A low trump from Axx will lead to a bloodbath. Tell me I'm wrong!

Meh, changed my mind again. I think dummy's spades may set up - 3, lol.

Do you play:

1 pass 1NT pass

pass 2

as clubs?

This auction is not the same as the auction in the original post. I would think responder in our auction is much more likely to be 3352 or similar than someone bidding 1C-1NT in standard.

In any case, if I pass over 1, I certainly do not have a hand that would want to show anything resembling takeout or a two-suiter not including clubs over 1C 1S* 1NT.

I think 2N will be easier to play than 3D, seems like LHO will have tough defensive decisions and we know a lot about their hand, and hearts are breaking 4-4 anyway. I'm concerned about a trump promotion beating 3D, which won't be hard to find at all with this dummy.
