nepor
Hi There is a lot of connection struggle now and then. These problems seems to be more or less permanent. My suggestion is to implement a numeric "PING-indicator" on each player, showing the actual individual PING-value, round the table so we can see why play is slowing up, or simply seems to be interrupted. Sometimes its conn problems but it is also caused by single players who just stop their acting and gives no hint about that. With a numeric ping indicator, the host could be more active to boot players who have good ping but slowing down the play of any other, "non legal", reason. Gerardo
the red dot is exactly that.
nepor
Yes, the red dot gives a short hint about bad ping but it is impossible, as host, to take any powerful decisions from that twinkling dot only. An exact digit shown would be much more useful to help table-host to "do her/his duty"...... Nepor
fred
Improving connectivity and speed is our first priority these days. The 4 main factors involved are: 1) our software2) our servers3) the quality of our members' ISPs4) what is happening on BBO (number of people logged in etc...) Some of you may not have noticed, but we have made great improvements as far as 1) is concerned in recent months. Those of you who don't have horrible ISPs will see another major improvement when the next version is released (within a few weeks I hope). As far as 2) goes, we are largely at the mercy of the company that we pay to host our servers. This company has had some serious problems during the past 6 months, but we have reason to believe that they have finally found the source of these problems and fixed them. More good news is that we now have a good contact with a manager at this company. If more problems arise in the future, it is likely that they will be dealt with more quickly. Obviously we have no control over 3). If you continually experience terrible connections, it is very likely your ISP's fault. Suggest you find another one in this case. Spend a little extra money on this - the quality of your life will improve as a result. In terms of 4) there is a widely believed rumor that vugraph hurts performance. This is not true (except that vugraph tends to attract a lot of people and the more people who are connected, the slower things get). One thing that does hurt performance is gigantic tournaments, but the next version will include some big improvements in this area. The bottom line is that the continuing growth BBO presents Uday and I (mostly Uday!) with a continuous challenge to keep up with the demand. Eventually we will reach the limit of what is possible with the existing basic architecture that we have. That is the main reason why we are planning on rewriting the software sooner rather than later.
