My understanding of ununusal vs unusual this shows defense against one of overcaller's suits. ArtK78 Posted March 7, 2013 Report Share Posted March 7, 2013 It appears that GIB is using simulations in much the same way that Alan Sontag did in a team trials many years ago. As I recall Edgar Kaplan's writeup of the trials in The Bridge World, there was a hand in which a competitive auction reached 5♠, and Sontag doubled. Kaplan described the double as follows: "It appears that Sontag doubled on the theory that on any given hand it is unlikely that the opponents can make 11 tricks with spades as trumps.
