Double has several ways to win:

1) LHO might go overboard in raising s

2) Partner might have a 5-card major

3) Partner has a 4-card major and the Moysian works

4) Partner has 4 (it can happen!)

5) Partner has a stack (yes, even under the bidder).

4 wins whenever partner can raise, or when 4 is the limit for our side. It loses whenever partner fails to bid a major or holds clubs. While we do have a 7-card suit, we won't find playable 4-3 fits in many instances.

Passing wins by allowing partner to offer a point of view, but loses whenever LHO has something to say, substance or not.

I'll double. For me it's not close.

I would double, but just because I do not like to commit to 5 right now and because 4 would be non leaping michaels.

If 4 is natural, I would choose it without a long hesitation.

I will take the comfort of the over call thanks. When you get tapped on the get go it is nice to be able to get in later and take a few tricks after we have removed trumps. Over calling does not prevent partner from bidding a major to advance. On hands where partner is not able to bid after I step in, are the ones where this 7 bagger had better be trumps. If we double we will never be finding partner responding in diamonds with any 4D and a 4 major. Double also faces the risk of partner passing when I have not exactly the ideal hand for defense. Assume we double and catch partner with with a poor hand. He is bidding his J4th of H and not his Kxx in D. It is not impossible to find partner 4-4-3-2. If partner has some values and a 5 card major he can bid it over 4D.

Here is the hand:

This was not a success.

Is partner's 6 call unreasonable?

Had the bidding gone any different opposite AQ6,KQ6,KT98642,-?

I like his gamble. You are a little shy in High cards for 4 diamonds, but you have to bid, he has too much for a lame 5 bid- bad luck.
