My 10 point opening. We are in a FP situation, should I leave it?
mike777
I open lite but prefer pass with that north hand. ten hcp 3 suited hands tend not to play so well. Really dislike 4h here, too weak. But not sure what the best method to compete with the south hand is...just not 4h.

The big issue is that there is a double fit on the hand, and you were never able to diagnosis it.South never showed diamond support
awm
I don't think I would open the north hand in first seat, and I would pass over 4♠ -- if partner has a singleton spade we probably want to compete rather than defend for example. However, I don't think the contract is so much a problem as the defense. The jack of spades play on the second round of trump at the table was poorly judged -- if west has six spades there is no real hurry to tap him again, whereas if he has five (as here) rising is extremely expensive. jillybean
Ah yes, I forgot to add the fact that I popped up with the J♠. I thought there was more to discuss.Playing too fast, not thinking enough.
kfay
If South wanted to set up a FP she should have bid 3♠. --> not in a forcing pass.
JLOGIC
Definitely not in a forcing pass, you have no idea whos hand it is. That said, the biggest problem is letting them make.
Codo
I had opened your hand, but it is surely not madatory. I had bid 4 ♥ with the south hand. If this bidding sequence creates a FP situation for you this is fine. It is not necessary to have always the best agreements, but it is necessary to have agreements. I had doubled 4 Spade with your hand, not knowing about the double fit, my hand does not look like 5 Diamond/HEart at all. Yes this works poorly here, but such is life. Partner made a reasonable descission to conceal the double fit, now it backfires- could happen. There is NO excuse to let them make. You are not allow to play too fast against JEC and never ever with a game or even slam bonus at stake. :) Of course this is easier to say then to do...
