What would you bid?

2D, very straightforward. Some may bid 4H, which I think is an underbid for this hand. over a possible 4S, you don't mind pulling to 5H, so you can probably start from 2D.

Agree

We need to bid slam when partner has 2 aces and the K of diamond, with 3 aces and the K , a grand is likely. 2D is the way to get there.

I need to add that I passed. I was thinking of opening 1H, but didn't like SQ, so passed.

Well if 2d is not focing now, then you have a different problem, it would be hard to convince partner to try for slam even when he got 2 aces and a K of diamond, or a grad with 3 aces and a K. maybe you should use drury then bid diamonds.

probably because it is not standard Ron :).

You don´t have a bid, 4 (or 3) doesn´t show at all your hand, partner won´t know wich of his kinds is golden, and 2 is not forcing... maybe 2 drury?.

Take another look at the bidding: both opponnets have passed, partner is probably strong, 2 won't be passed out, so 2.

How about 2NT? When combined with Drury, this shows a max, 4 trumps and a singleton somewhere. OK so I have 2 singletons, but since everything else is NF except Drury and if partner has an 11 count I want to be in game anyway, 2NT looks like the best bid. And if partner attempts to sign off, I'll raise to 4. Of course partner might get excited and ask for my singleton, after which I'll show a club singleton, since the Q of spades might be useful.

I should also add that a jump to 3S or 4C would show a void in this method of passed hand bidding.

You have a hand that will make a slam opposite the right minimum opener, three bare aces and the advertised 5 card heart suit. You want to make a forcing bid and start investigating slam, hoping the opponents don't belatedly come alive and jam your auction.

With a weak partner you might even consider 4NT, as the majority of partner's possible hands will allow you to make at least five. But, you do have to force the bidding, so for most people 3D or 2C (Drury) seems best.

Your pd opens 1. What would you bid, holding Q, KJxxx, ♦ATxxxx, x?

I will assume you are not a passed hand, despite I saw other posts referring to passed hand bidding agreements.

This hand, with great fit and about 6 losers, is certainly a GF hand and has reasonable slam expectations opposite a non-minimum opener.

So I need a GF bid without bidding 4H - which would be a gross underbid.

3 alternatives:

1) if playing 2/1 GF, 2D seems the right bid to start with, planning to support at the 3 level

2) otherwise, Jacoby 2NT (or whatever you use as strong slammish raise)

3) finally, since you have all suits guarded from 2 fast losers, the "quick'n'dirty" approach of bidding 4NT (hopefully agreed as RKCB- otherwise go via J2NT then 4NT) seems the most straightforward and will seldom leave us in a hopeless slam nor miss a good one.

-------

If you were a passed hand, I'd bid Drury to find out if pard has a full opener, in which case I'd RKCB, otherwise I'd bid game.
