The auction was crude, but I have seen worse with pickup partners. After the club hook worked, I thought I was home, but then I couldn't drop the queen. Next I tried ducking a heart hoping to find the suit 4-2: no luck. But this got me thinking. Is there a name for this? Anyway, I don't think I ever did that before, at least not on purpose. So I am happy now. edit: LOL at me, just noticed the diamond situation at trick 10. haha, i was so focused on the other three suits, that I missed that entirely! So maybe it's not as cool as I thought.
manudude03
Better yet, looks like a hexagon squeeze, they're both squeezed in 3 suits. By the way, when it's a double squeeze where the opponents are squeezed on different tricks, it's called a non-simultaneous double squeeze. edit: sorry, downgrading to compound, LHO isn't really squeezed in spades. Cyberyeti
edit: sorry, downgrading to compound, LHO isn't really squeezed in spades.Only because his partner has unguarded diamonds rather than spades. Basically the first thing that happens is that E gets squeezed on the third top heart, a club at any point is obviously fatal, he has one easy diamond discard then must discard from one of the pointy suits. Whichever one he discards then allows W to be squeezed in hearts and that suit. It is a compound squeeze of sorts, play through to the 5 trick stage as per the diagram, then consider RHO's options (he's obviously better to discard 2 cards from one pointy suit rather than one from each or a club). He can throw spades on the two hearts, you could discard a diamond and a club and hook the spade, but discarding a diamond and a spade works too, K♦, diamond to the A, ♣ AK and LHO has to discard from ♠Jx ♥x in front of dummy. He can throw diamonds on the two hearts, you throw a diamond and a spade, cash K♠, diamond to the A, AK♣ and LHO has to discard from ♦Jx ♥x in front of dummy. Note that in either case, you need to cash the winner in dummy in the suit LHO doesn't guard before playing the final simple squeeze. billw55
heh, I was blind to most of that. All my brain power went to visualizing the three trick ending.
