what's partner's got?

The reason noone thinks 3h shows heart support is that is was far too

easy to just bid 3d over the x of 2d (4d self splinter for spades). While I

am generally unhappy with the conclusions drawn about the nature of the

E hand, I can certainly understand W passing 3h in light of the fact that

a 3d bid was a huge standout with heart support and all else was searching

for something else and apparently open to interpretation in a way that

makes passing 3h a viable option (though why a pass is acceptable after

the 3c cue is beyond me)

:P Not playing fit showing jumps (not a bad idea, though, imho), I would have started with a humble 2. After that, getting to at least 4 is automatic. Six , probably not, but making six is far from certain as well.

East jumps in spades and West bids 4? Seems like an easy hand unless you want to reach 6.

Actually no, depends how your overcalls and fit jumps work. Our overcalls are very sound and fit jumps don't promise the earth (raise to 3+), so our auction would go:

(1)-1-2(5 decent spades, 4 hearts, 7+ points)

2N(spades no better than small singleton)-3(A/K now at least mildly slam interested, no club control)

4(cue, better than minimum, exactly one club control, precisely small singleton spade, 3N would show the void)-4(keycard)

4N(0/3)-5(Q ?)

5(no)-6

The spade hand knows partner has x, AKxxx, K, A, difficult to see how this doesn't have good play.
