I would have a boring auction:

1-1 (spades, GF)

2NT (20-21 or so)-3 (retransfer)

3-3NT

Possibly I would downgrade it, and bid 1NT (good 16 to 19) given that we're in a GF already. Same basic auction, though, as North is on a minimum w/no fit.

My second question relates to, say:

QT932 983 J AK98

opposite

K4 AKT6 AKQ96 65

After

P - 1;

1 - 1NT;

2 - 2;

3 - 3,

South is presumably not keen to bid 3NT. I was asking if you have some away around this (quite common) issue. One simple solution is just to bid 3NT with the North hand, thus hiding the 5th spade. Another one would be for South to bid 2NT instead of 3, but perhaps you need this for something else.

Unnamed Homebrew Diamond:

If S treats the hand as balanced:

1-1 16+, excluding GF/8+ almost any

1N-2 16-19 balanced/transfer

2-3N Denies 4-card support/Choice of games

end

If S shows shape:

1-1 16+, excluding GF/8+ almost any

2-2N Single-suited OR both reds OR short /Relay

3-3 Both reds, better / preference

3-3N Waiting bid/Suggestion of contract

It's possible that N would decide to just bid 3NT instead of suggesting the fit, and it's possible that S would end up bidding 4 on this start.

Upgraded Ultra Club Relay (C3)

1♣ - 1♥ = 4+♠ -

1♠ = Relay - 2♥ = Reverse canape (5+♠ & 4-cd minor) -

Have you altered the basic system here? On Dan's site the response would be 2 showing 54m with 2 showing 6+4m.

Yes, for memory efficiency: 1 - 1/ - Cheapest bid = Relay - 2 is the 6M hand
