steve2005
3Ni stuck my neck out vul with 2♦ overcall as i thought they were signing off in 2♣GIB double dummy analysis says ♦ lead only thing which will set 3N.computer on lead with Jxx♦ lead t♠ from T9x instead.surely simulations(the way computer picks leads) would pick a ♦ lead assuming ive got 5+♦, but no i think there should be some sort of prority programmed to leading partners suit especially at NT turns out declarer misplays & go down
Stephen Tu
I disagree. The whole reason GIB plays better than previously developed programs is it got away from this rules based approach, and use sim instead of woodenly follow rule like lead partner's suit, regardless of situation. Sticking in special case rules probably makes it worse not better, on average. Now, the DB maybe needs to be fixed for 2d to be 5+ diamond if it doesn't already (don't know since no explanation in this 3x human deal), and maybe that would be enough to get it to lead D. But more likely, on this deal, robot is massively confused by opponent's bidding, so has weird picture of what's going on. There's no facility for opps to inform GIB what they are playing, so GIB is assuming opps are also playing a GIB-like std 2/1 system. So opener bidding 1nt, then 3nt, responder bidding 2c (sign-off?) only, from GIB's point of view they have 12-14 opposite 6-9, and have massively overbid, so I suppose it thinks being passive is best. So in my view the things to work on, for this deal are:- some way to allow GIB to read opp's CCs, at least things like NT range, std vs. precision. This probably takes a lot of effort, I wouldn't expect it to be done for long time if ever- perhaps more feasible, if opps actions have landed them in some contract that GIB thinks is really weird based on their supposed distributions and strength ranges, instead of taking their bids at face value, add some "fuzziness", give them more strength/distribution than their bids suggest and card play vs. a less constrained deal set. I don't think overriding the engine with "lead my suit 100% dammit" is the best approach.
pigpenz
I always wondered if GIB when he is your partner, if he knew you had the best hand at the tablehe would play hands entireley different. now when you throw in two human opps GIB cant handle different conventions thats whyresults are always skewed in open room...GIB will always take a preciscion 2♣ as a strong bidlike wise a 10-12 NT as 15-17, though Leo has proven otherwise
