Table Status/Permissions

Recommended Posts

I experience problems when 'permission to join' table is set. It is only possible to accept or reject the new player and other actions are blocked in the meantime. When the table is closing (ie all/several players leaving after this deal) and (eg) dummy has left, the host may get a flood of requests from new players. Would it be possible to have a 'Table Closing' status so that new players do not try to join?

..Would avoid offending players attempting to join - there is no way to explain why a player is rejected at present and no time to do so by 'chat'.

..Also 'unfair' to bring new player to table as dummy , then others leave B)

When a player requests to join I think it may be easy to present more than one reject button such as

"reject-no reason"

"reject-table is full"

"reject-enter a reason"

The player then gets a "your request was rejected because the table was already full" or "your request was rejected" or "your request was rejected XXXXX" can be displayed to the player.

Bah maybe this is silly.

I like your idea of a "Table is Closing" status. Usually when I play, we have set up a foursome and play for 2-1/2 to 3 hours. Then when our session ends, we chat a bit as first one player leaves, then the next, and finally the last two.

As you pointed out, it is embarassing to reject players or, even worse - as happens, have someone join the table and then we all leave.

Sure we could use a chatroom instead of hanging around at the table, but this is just a few minutes chat to set up next week's session or say goodbyes.

You can fix this problem by towards the end of the game, click on the table button and make yoru table invisible. Then no one will see it, and thus not try to join.

Actually I generally do that (make the table invisible). I do it from the beginning. Sometimes friends message one of the players and I temporarily open the table to allow them to kibitz ("Permission Required") and then make it invisible again.

Making a table invisible does not make it invisible to people who are already kibitzing (which I think is a nice feature not a bug).

However, some people don't like playing at invisible tables. If you only make the table invisible near the end of the session, then you may have acquired a number of kibitzers you don't really know (if I host an visible table, I never set permission required to kibitz - it's too distracting and I don't really mind anyway). Some of those kibitzers may then try to sit (that is when I've run into the problems I mentioned).

Anyway, it's not a big deal, but I still the "Table is Closing" status.
