I was worried that 1H followed by Diamonds might have led partner to think I had longer Hearts than diamonds. But if I opened a Diamond and partner bid spades was I strong enough to reverse? As it happens Diamonds were 2:2 with Queen onside. As always thanks in advance, Simon

Bbradley62
South bid his hand. Opposite a partner that reversed, North decided to not explore slam with 19HCP, a strong 5-card suit, well-placed spade honors, and support for partner's first-bid suit. Yes, you should get there and it's 100% North's fault that you didn't.
ggwhiz
it's 100% North's fault that you didn't.North bid 1/2 as many notrump as he should have. If they grab the A♠ you may not even need the diamond suit.
neilkaz
Hmm..North has fitting honors in both of PD's suits and a fine looking 19 hcp and only bid 3NT...one would expect slam to be a favorite with North's hand and he didn't even try for it. Guess who's 100% to blame.
P_Marlowe
North has 19HCP, knowes his partner opened and that the partnershiphas a fit.He showed 12-13, 5 clubs, a spade stopper, denied 4 hearts and a goodfit. I think it is clear, where to look for an explanation, why you may havemissed the slam. 3H did not show add. strength, 3C was gameforcing, you dont introducesuits on the 3 level in a forcing manner to play in a partial. But 3H did also not limit the hand. North should bid 4D instead of 3NT. Regarding your opening:Given the good texture of the suits, the hand justifies a reverse. With kind regardsMarlowe

Codo
To give the bidding any sense, I will assume that south bid 3 ♦ not 3 ♥. In this case, south did fine and north was the underbidder of the year. If the bidding was as it was presented, I abstain and look for bridge problems...
