Say the auction starts 2(strong)-2(waiting)-3(natural). How do you expect responder to continue? It has often struck me that dedicating 3 and 3 to the rather uncommon handtype with a 5-card major is a bit of a waste; on the other hand of course if 3M were to show only 4 it would be much harder to catch up later when responder does have 5.

Over 2-2-3 of course there is more room and I invite you to share your fun ideas about how to use it.

Benito's stuff is helpful here. After 2 - 2:

- 3M = 4M + 5+D

- 3 - 3 is noise and asks for a 4CM.

- 3 essentially denies a 4cM. I can see switching responder's 3M here.

That's what I play, it solves the "lack of space" issue.

Hi, i used to play that after 2D 2H as 24+ bal or 4+ H unbalanced, 2S as 4+ S unbalanced, and 3C/D nat denying 4M, 3H/S as SOLID 7+ suits asks for side cues.

For example after 2C-2D-2H: if 2D was only negative then 2S automatic response and now:

2NT 24+ bal

3C 5+H/4X->3D asks sidesuit(3H/S/NT=S/C/D), 3S=5+S, 3H=5-7 3+H

3D 4H/5+D

3H 4H/5+C

3S 1S444

3NT 6H 1 suited, not as good as stright 3H over 2D

IF 3C/D are allowed to bid with 4card MAJor its really bad,very bad:)
