[hv=d=s&n=saqxxhaxxxdkqxxca&s=s10hxxdaj10xxxxcqxx]133|200|From Easybridge,it's hard to bid up to 6D in natural based system.

How could you bid? Thank you![/hv]

The vulnerability would help, because preemptive bids reflect the vulnerability.

But a reasonable auction would be....

3 6

Pass

Seems easy. 3D = I can take 6 tricks in diamonds (down three if doubled)... North looks at three aces, KQ of diamonds, and singleton club, and the spade queen. That is a possible SEVEN to EIGHT trikcks. So will think small slam, and maybe even grand slam. If spade hook is on, grand slam makes.

Auken/Andersen might have some cute tools to possibly find 7, if it was there. Wouldn't we all preempt on: Kx, xx, Axxxxxx, xx?

I play 4 as baby Gerber (tempted to 'mispell' Gerber :) ), but we haven't talked too much about continuations, but I can see:

3 - 4

4-4

4N - 5

6

1. 4 is key card gerber.

2. 4 shows one key card without the trump Queen; responses are 0 w/ Q, 1 w/o, 1 w/Q, 2 w/o, 2 w/Q.

3. 4 asks for 2nd round controls

4. 4N shows spades

5. 5 says bid 7 with 2nd round control .

Not playing this stuff (that comes up about 1x 2 years) I just blast 6.

Please, 4 is key card BLACKWOOD there is no such thing as Keycard Gerber. I like 3 - 6 as well.

Preempt from A to Z use control asking bids, that would get you to 7 on suitable hands like:

Kx

x

AJTxxxx

xxx

3 - 4 (CAB)

4NT (2nd round) - 5 (CAB)

5 (2nd round) - 7

If you want to play 4 you have to bid 3 4.

I would bid the same as what Ben said: 3-6. When 6D was almost a sure thing, I don't need gadgets.

Assuming pd has A, even if South doesn't have enough for North to ruff, we can rely on finesse as the final resort unless pd is void in . Finally, if South doesn't have DA, I can expect him to have K, or K on side.

To expect South have K asks to much, IMHO. Unless you are regular partners and can be sure what you do, complicated auctions may not get the info you want (even if South has SK), but lead to confusion and "short trump" contract instead.

It's easy to bid 3d-6d. But...

I wouldn't open 3d. It promisses two top honours.

If my partner opens 3d I would bid 6d too. Because I don't have better methods :D

5d depends on spade finesse. It's not only about counting tricks.

Not playing this stuff (that comes up about 1x 2 years) I just blast 6♦.
100% agree

3D 4C = asks for KC and suit quality

4H = good suit, 1KC

4S = any other K. Now 4N - 6D seems obvious

3♦ (weak) - 4♦ (RCKB with ♦)

4♠ (1/4 KC) - 5♣ (Kings?)

6♦ ( No, but single somewhere (5♦ would show 0/3, so one must be enough for 6))

Would you open 1st seat 3d without AKQ? I wouldn't. I don't need to ask for KC.

Would you bid 7d if the answer was 1 king? Imagine spade king in a hand I posted.

How do you bid this hand if you don't open 3d?

p-1d

?

Do you bid splinters with passed hand?

Do you bid 2d or 3d? (Playing inverted minor and not playing inv minor)

Does anybody bid 5d?
