3h assuming this shows spade support (limit +) the main reason for this is

if p can scare up a 4d splinter our trump fit is so huge that 6s (maybe even 7)

wont depend on the dia K which will surely fall or be ruffing finessable. This bid

might also get us a 5c exclusion bid if p cant bid 4d and another good way to look

for 6/7.

 

If I were 100% sure 5c was exclusion after 2s that may be the best way to go but

w/o a practiced partnership there is too much chance 5c can be viewed as natural.

 

Partner might not appreciate all of this since he has hearts and a minor.

This is why I do not like Michaels especially in an unpracticed partnership.

 

Along with the agreement Michaels we also need to agree how to show a suit of our own and even more fundamentally how strong partner is for Michaels.

 

If ... 2NT P 3♣; P 3♦ is natural I will plan to bid that way. If somehow this is non-forcing and partner's Michaels was constructive I will bid 3NT over 3♣.

I would just try to show diamonds and sign off, 3D if it's natural and 2N then 3D if it's not. Maybe this is overly pessimistic but I cannot see this hand playing very well in 3N with no communication, stiff K of hearts as blockage, etc.

Assuming partner has clubs I think our chances in 3N aren't too shabby. I'll likely get a spade lead and I will establish diamonds right away. If partner has the ♥A. I have a re-entry and that gets me to 8. Depending on the layout, I'll exit a (possibly cashing the ♠A first) a middle spade and it seems likely they can't stop me from 9.

Partner has to have something as the Michaels bid forces your side to the 3 level. But the hand may play terribly at 3 NT because of potential transport problems.

 

So, I'm in the camp that will show ♦, and try to sign off there via 3 ♦ or 2 NT-3♣-3♦ according to whatever your agreements are.

3♦ is to play so I bid 2nt and 3♦ (presuming 3♣ is his response) and if he bids 3♠ over that I'll play in 3nt.

 

If they bid again I gets my doubles ready!

3NT is probably down double dummy, buy it will still make against my usual opponents, I think I'd try it, after 2NT, there is no reason why partner can't have diamonds, and LHO might want to bid his semi-solid spades again at the 3 level
