kgr
Doing the bidding practice from L.Cohen site with my partner [hv=pc=n&w=skj8hat8dacakjt76&e=saq764h732d64cq32&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=1c3d(preempt)dp4dp4sp5cppp]266|200|IMPs[/hv]If East bids 3♠ iso DBL then we have agreement that it is GF.West can open 2♦ and rebid 3♣ to show GF in ♣.Or West can open 2NT 20-21, but thought his hand was too good for it and not balanced enough. 2♦ followed by 2NT would have been 22-23.East thought that he didn't have enough for 3♠ GF, and that he had bid enough with the DBL. So, how should we bid to 7...or 6?
lalldonn
I think west should just force to slam, but I would never get to 7 after the 3♦ bid. East did well to double instead of pass although after 1♣ 3♦ P P X P 4♠ west could bid again anyway I think.

I think it's easier over 1♣-(3♦)-P-(P)-X-P-4♠ (4N-5♦-5♥-5N-6♣-7♠-7N).
lalldonn
If he has just four spades he will be stronger than he was.
Cyberyeti
If he has just four spades he will be stronger than he was.Agreed, he might have the nice helpful red queens, the point being AQxxx/Qxx is actually more use to you than AQxx/Qxxx/QJ/Qxx and you will struggle to tell them apart. Codo
I think I had opened a 22/23 NT. I have no idea what this West had done over a pass from LHO and a simple 1 ♥ from partner.... The bidding at the table makes it not easier too. Anyway, over the double, West should force to a slam. All of partners points are working, so slam must be good. But I see no convincing way to go to 7. You need to find out about all honours in the East hand and the 5. spade- impossible for me. Of course a direct 3 ♠ bid instead of the double had helped- but Easts hand is far away from a GF 3 Spade bid.

Cyberyeti
This is why you miss 7 as lalldonn said.Which is why I said pass then 4♠ was more helpful than the initial double, as now you can bid 7.
