JonnyQuest
In the following auction: 1♥ - (X) - 2♦ What are you expecting for the 2♦ response? Can it be...10+ HCP?Less than 10?Either? Does it show...An inability to respond 1 SpadeAn inability to respond 2NT (Limit+ raise in Hearts) What responses, after the double, are forcing by an unpassed hand? Thanks!
SteveMoe
Assuming Natural Bidding only: 4-9 HCP and 5+ ♦ cards. Weak-constructive and denies a fit. With xxxx xx AQxxxx x, 2♦ likely better than 1♠. Redouble 10+ implies no fit (might contain 3 card limit raise).1 level forces 6+ HCP 4+ Cards, as if the double never happened. Note: Kaplan and Sheinwold advocated playing 2bids here are natural and forcing. Not see many do this anymore. Bergen Raises over Major and Double (BROMAD) changed the landscape a bit.So have transfer responses over takeout doubles. Both these approaches add value with fit bids that distinguish between weak, constructive, and invitational hands. P_Marlowe
Even if not playing NFB after suit overcalls, it is quite common to play NFB after theymade a T/O.On the ground, that after we have opened he bidding / they having shown opening values, Iusually wont have opening values as well. But you have to make an agreement. If you want to create a gameforce absent agreements, start with XX. With kind regardsMarlowe
Zelandakh
If you are playing ITD, it is natural and forcing. In this case, all responses except Pass, Redouble and a direct raise are forcing. If you are playing strong1, weak2, it is natural and non-forcing. In this case, all the same bids as above are forcing except 2 of a new suit.If you are playing transfers, it is a good heart raise. In this case, everything is forcing except a direct raise and, depending on your structure, 1NT.
kenberg
As it happens, the auction (well, clubs, not diamonds) occurred yesterday. My hand: [hv=pc=n&e=s987hq9dk3ck97654&d=w&v=e&b=16&a=1hd2cp2nppp]133|200[/hv] This is absolutely the least I would have. Partner made 2NT although it could have been set. I was prepared to apologize. I upgraded the 8 count because of the heart Queen. I like to play this call as constructive but not forcing. Basically, it means that I think that I am likely to have a play for making 2♣.. I don't think it denies having ten points. A redouble shows ten points, but that is different from saying that the lack of a redouble denies ten points. For example, change my club 4 to a club Queen. Do I really want to redouble? I am not planning on doubling their spades for penalties at either the one level or the two level. I favor getting my suit in right now. If partner has a modest club fit we can contest 2♠ with 3♣, and then if they go on in spades I might well consider (if holding the club Q instead of the club 4) doubling. This last thought applies at matchpoints I think.
