fred Posted January 3, 2005 Report Share Posted January 3, 2005 Some of the languages that BBO can be set to are "full translations" (ie almost everything everywhere in the software will appear in that language). Some of the other languages (Chinese, Russian, Arabic, and Greek) are currently meant only for chatting purposes. Hopefully we will eventually have full translations of these languages, but for that to happen we will need volunteers to do most of the hard work. I don't know for sure if chatting in these languages works or not (but I am pretty sure that Russian and Greek work). In some cases you might need a special version of Windows (or at least special fonts installed). I did the programming for these languages "by the book", but the book is not always right (and I don't always read as carefully as I should). Until recently Japanese was in the same category (ie only Japanese chat was possible), but we are now testing a full Japanese translation of BBO (which is close to being finished). Now that we have someone (you) who might be in a position to tell me if Chinese works or not, I can make a more serious effort to make sure it does (presuming you are willing). Do you have a Chinese version of Windows installed on your PC? If yes, can you type Chinese characters into the chat box? If no, what do you see when you try? No matter I set language as English/Chinese, I can type Chinese chat messages and see them in Chinese properly. Something strange in chat though. I can send chat messages in complete Chinese e.g. 耶誕快樂 to individual person/this table/tournament etc. I could only send chat messages beginning with English to the lobby. i.e. I could send 'merry xmas 耶誕快樂' to lobby but could not send '耶誕快樂' to lobby. I could type Chinese in my profile. In Explore bridge -> Bridge Library -> Chinese, I could not read the Chinse characters. Strange characters are shown.
