Passing

Recommended Posts

Interesting idea but too expert bid. Really unlike here you will have game if your parner also pass, because all like light openings from 3th position with majors and your partner probably have at least one.

Why not pass:

1. Passing from 1 pos with normal opening values is bluff and it is forbidden normally from same position. If your opp call me i will judge administrative penalty for you (i am director).

2. You havent clear bid, if your partner open from 3th pos with 1 HE/SP. All your jump bids p will understand as some kind of fit and you will be in trouble.

3. You can lose penalty dbl, because your partner never know you can have 3 QT and cannot make right defense.

4. You can lose good sacrifice or even game in minors.

Even better, forcing pass systems are in my opnion easier to defend than LOBs.

IMO they were banned because they were considered "satanic" :-) Somehow players were getting good results with those systems and others complained "we don't want to study and we can't win anymore!, please do something"

Do you know any good pairs using a FPS in actual competition?

Debating with A1P...

1st in hand, I would probably pass with:

AQ-x-Axxxx-Kxxxx

Opinions?

I apply RULE of 20 with some caveats to opening decisions. Here I have a 13 count with 10 cards in my two longest suits. The only minus would be I have poor quality suits. Even if I take a full point off for that this is a clear opening bid.

My choice? 1D and rebid Clubs cheaply later.

If you pass, can you really get to game, much less possible slam opposite a minimum like

S-xx H-Jxxx D-x C-AQxxxx

Hi Luis

For your information I yesterday received a mail from Longin Bartnik. I think it will be OK to copy a sentence from that:

"Bez Nazwy is not precise (especiaslly if partner is passed). Balicki-Zmudzinski use 2 systems. In 1 and 2 hand - Suspensor (it is better Bez Nazwy) and in 3 and 4 hand - Delta -very precise, bat bed to 1 and 2 hand)"

Here you have address for Longin's WEB-site: www.bartnik.zwm.punkt.pl/longin/

1. It's not a bluff, it's a judgement, ;D.

If I wish to pass with 24hcp, more fool me. I am not aware of a rule that says 12+ hcp MUST open. It's not a forcing pass either, P will be misled too!

2. Yes, if partner opens 1M 3rd in hand, I cannot jump; I am prepared to reverse though... I know there are objections to reversing with 5-5... Pah!

A more likely scenario is that opps bid a major, Ben said 1D, ok; consider 1D-(1H)-p-(3H)-4C?? as opposed to p-(1H)-p-(3H)-3NT!

3. Yes, there are objections on the grounds of compromised defence... you don't, however, lose the penalty double.

4. Sacrifice, see 2. above. Missing a minor suit game is, IMO, only a small risk at MP, at IMPs it's different.

However, the most probable result of opening is a minor partial... small loss at MP!

PS. If shooting, I would definately pass, ;D.
