I really liked nearly everything what was made during the biding at the table. It was so full of harmony and so small in bridge understanding.

1. There is a borderline to open 1 in a suit. No matter where it is, it is well below this hand.

2. To reopen with 4 spades and no hearts is asking for trouble.

3. To double with no tricks is silly.

4. Not to redouble with the great fit, an ace and short spades is silly.

You forgot to mention North's initial pass... ;)

Hello and welcome to the forums eternalme.

In the OP auction, I would duplicate one of the first seven calls, although I can see arguments for making a different call at every turn. Also, before anyone else gets too rude about the Double, I will point out that the OP was sitting South for this hand. Looking over the BBO record it does look like the Novice/Beginner forum might be a good place for some friendly advice. Also, I can recommend the BIL for learning what the different bids mean.

On a different tack, this seems like a perfect hand for Ben's system:

2NT = club preempt or strong 2-suiter with hearts and not clubs

... - 3

4 = hearts and spades, 2 loser, need club

... - 6

would be the auction I think. I am sure Ben will correct me if I misread the notes.
