IMPS, all red, North deals and plays 5H after LHO overcalled 2C.

At the table declared finessed QC and ducked a round of trumps into LHO. The club return was won in dummy.

Thoughts? Trumps are 3-2...

I presume a club lead.

After the Q held, I would not have touched trumps. You can ill afford to duck a trump.

Establish your side suit first.

I probably play a diamond to the jack at trick 2.

Now:

If the diamond finesse looses hope that trumps break. You still have some chances if diamonds are 4-1 if the one short in diamonds has three trumps.

If the finesse wins you are in much better shape and should survive a 4-1 break in either red suit.

Next play the ace of hearts and then the king of diamonds.

If East ruffs and returns a low spade, ruff in hand and ruff a diamond low in dummy.

If East overruffs you are home since only one trump is outstanding.

If West ruffs(unlikely) and returns a spade and you have to ruff in hand, ruff a diamond (let West hold if he ruffs high) without cashing the king of hearts.

If East discards on the king of diamonds, go to the king of hearts to ruff another diamond.

A spade ruff back to hand and diamonds.

If the king of diamond holds (both following), play to the king of hearts and play on diamonds, loosing at most 2 trump tricks if they break 4-1.
