  1. 1. How should I vote in polls I created?

    • Vote for what I did at the table
      2
    • Vote for what works best given all hands
      0
    • Vote for what I think is best in hindsight
      5
    • Don't vote in my own polls

When I create a poll about a bridge hand, what should I vote for?

Typically there is some choice I made at the table (which may or may not have worked out; usually not since I tend to post the hands I get wrong as problems more often than the ones I get right). Since I've actually played the hand, I know what would've worked at the table (whether I think this is theoretically "best" or not). Occasionally I have a theory about what the "right" action was (either my action or some other) and could vote for that, although quite often I'm posting because I don't know what this "right" action might be.

What do other people do?

I tend not to vote in any poll I started, and when I do, i "never" vote in them them for the first few days. I made an exception to the don't vote early rule and voted in the stillborn movie thread post. I really liked that one, and gave it a high rating. As for play hands, if and when I vote, I vote for the best play, which no doubt is the one I made at the table. :) :)

Polls need a 'candy' option for precisely this reason.

I usually don't vote in my own polls when it is about which play/bid is best on a particular hand. But I think it is ok to vote for what you think is best in hinsight, assuming that you make it a non-anonymous poll. And then I would wait a few days before voting, as Ben says.

With very few exceptions I vote in a poll before reading any comments. Then I see how the votes tally up. Ideally, I see who voted for what. If the poster voted, I assume that his vote is the same vote he would cast if someone else had posted the poll. So that (the hindsight option) would be my recommendation. But I don't feel strongly about it.

Huh! This is one of the exceptions because I have at least glanced at comments and have not yet voted. But on hands, I virtually always vote before reading. Sometimes after reading, I change my mind but I leave my vote as is. Probably there is no option to change it, I don't know.
