I wonder what is the minimum strength to bid against a preempt and when to choose DBL or to bid ♥. The hands are given as examples, but more general advise is very welcome

First two hands come from Yesterdays team match (IMPs). Other two hands are to clarify my questions.

The first one is genuinely difficult. The second is a 3H bid, the other two are doubles. I would take the same actions (4H, x, x) one level higher.

first should pass, if partner cant double or bid you will go negative with anything but pass

over 3S - pass

 

second, easy 3H

over 3S - 4H

 

third, not good enough for 2N either X (i like X cause H not that great) or 3H ok

over 3S X

The first hand is horrible to bid, anzthing can lose 10+ imps. I would pass.

 

The others are easy: 3 ♥ (or 4 if necessary) X and X.

I'm right there with the general consensus - Pass on the 1st hand, 3 ♥ on the 2nd, and Double on the last two.
