your everyday balancing decision

Recommended Posts

3nt for me, but I have a death wish and understanding teammates. I shouldn't be down more than 5, vuln and doubled, if I've stepped in it. A worthy sac vs their 140, I think. I'd certainly pass if I was sane, or felt we were much stronger than they were. I'd pass before I'd double (really dislike double here).

Having a predisposition to balancing allows partner to not stretch so much to come in in the direct seat. Partner could easily have some assorted 12-15 count here. Good thing not many IMPs swing on this decision, eh?

Hobson's choice.

Passing might be our last chance at a sure plus. I'm not going to pass. It's still a bidder's game.

3N might be a K too weak. (I expect pard to have about 8 HCP here). With 4333 shape we need partner to provide length tricks. AJx won't stop twice if RHO holds a K or Q, and we expect RHO to have the missing entries. Ugh.

Double might find pard with some 3=1=45. A saving grace is our minor honors are well positioned.

Since partner rates to have 3.5 and 1.5 I'm doubling and hoping for the best.

The decision on this hand should be whether to bid or pass. It is not what to bid if you decide to bid. 3NT is obvious if you do so.

I don't really understand the double. This is your last chance to bid and play 3 NT. No need to mention 3NT doesn't deny 4 card spade suit, 3 card diamonds or 3 card clubs. I would want to play 3 NT even if there is a fit.

there is little sense in risking a match or a monstrous swing with

a 3n bid here. It might indeed make but the kinds of cards p needs

to make it might also make 5 of a minor possible. 3n also pretty

much eliminates finding spades unless p has a ton of them and

couldnt bid over 3h. Preempts work keep using them but in this case

better safe than sorry

I'm a touch light for 3nt but played from my side it's the only way to get full value from the J.

I'm 2 touches light for any other game and I'm not passing or risking being in 4 of a minor.
