jillybean
How do you play this, using losing trick count or something else?
Zelandakh
The5re are many different conventions going by the name of Modified Ogust so you might find it helpful to be more specific. If you mean the good/bad hand part of (normal) Ogust then most people just seem to go by feel, in essence answering the question: "If partner made an invitational 3M raise, would I accept?" Flem72
Perhaps someone will expound on Bogust, particularly responses to the "5 cards" answer.. Re: regular Ogust, I've played vs. folks who use the standard "would I bid 4M opposite a minimum strong NT?" to answer the good hand part of it. jillybean
I have heard of a modified ogust that uses losing trick count as responses, something like:3♣ : bad hand, 9 losers. 3♦ : bad hand, 8 losers. 3♥ : good hand,8 losers. 3♠ : good hand,7 losers or fewer. And another version that asks opener to show shortage. nvm, I have found this old thread.. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/51677-2nt-ask-in-response-to-a-weak-2/

Certain colors should rule out certain hand strengths for a weak two. With kind regardsMarlowe

wyman
Perhaps someone will expound on Bogust, particularly responses to the "5 cards" answer.. 3D is usually some sort of checkback, after which people decide what's important to show based on their agreements about 2M. Usually a 5-card weak two is chunky, so suit quality may be less useful, so you can use 3H/S/N as mini-midi-maxi after 2M-2N; 3C-3D. Or you could play that 2M+1 (rather than 2N) asks (so 2H-2N=spades), so after bogust/5cards/ask, you can reply with 3M=min, 3M-1=max, so that responder gets 3M as another ask over the max response (e.g., "do you have shortness?"). To be more concrete: 2S - 2N3C - 3D [ask] 3H: max (after which 3S: shortness?)3S: min --- 2H - 2S (bogust)2N - 3C (5 cards, ask) 3D: max (after which 3H: shortness?)3H: min
mycroft
Again, it all depends on what your agreements are for a weak 2. If you play, like one partnership of mine, that Txxxxx is perfectly valid NV (maybe QTxxxx 2nd seat NV), then a good suit is probably something like KJTxxx or AQ9xxx. Of course, those are minimum suit quality 2nd Vul, so a good suit would be AKTxxx or better. If you play, like another partnership of mine, disciplined weak 2s opposite an unpassed hand, then (assuming you still want to play Ogust, which we don't, for exactly this reason) a good suit is AKxxxx to AKJxxx (possibly AQJTxx), because a bad suit is KQ9xxx or QJT8xx. Also, do you weak 2 on (46)12? What about 6M4m30? That changes what you are going to say is a good/okay/bad hand.
